Gifting is a constant in life. We start with macaroni necklaces and handprint ornaments for our moms, dads, and grandparents. As we grow and have more resources, we often feel overwhelmed and stumped when trying to come up with gift ideas—moving from meaningful handmade gifts to sweaters, coffee mugs, and candles for anyone and everyone.

Gifting is a continuous endeavor, happening year-round and often multiple times a year for the same person. It can feel exhausting to come up with unique ideas time after time.

Many people (myself included) fall into common bad habits—procrastination, surrender, and laziness—when a gifting occasion approaches. We worry that the gifts we choose won’t meet the high expectations that come with giving and receiving. While recipients may express gratitude, we all crave genuine excitement in their reactions.

But gifting doesn’t have to feel burdensome! Think of it as a puzzle waiting to be solved. Each recipient is a unique individual with their own likes, dislikes, wants, and needs. Our job is to gather these clues and transform them into something truly giftable. Solving that puzzle is satisfying, and the joy we feel when the gift is opened is even greater.

It’s less about solving the puzzle perfectly and more about putting in the effort. This is something we are all capable of! The only caveat is...time. Putting in the effort undeniably takes time, which is our most valuable resource. If you don't have the time, it's okay—it happens to everyone. No one can fault you for the various and inevitable factors of life.
